As a small business owner and consultant, I spend a lot of time helping other business owners look at their numbers, systems, and strategies. Running a consulting business isn’t for the faint of heart – there are long days, constant learning curves, and moments when the path forward feels anything but clear. But between client emergencies and looming deadlines, I remind myself there’s plenty to be thankful for.

Troubleshooting is a way of life for many small business owners.
It’s easy to get stuck in a problem-solving rut. I make it a point to encourage clients to take a step back from the daily grind to reflect on what’s going right in their business. Acknowledging even the smallest wins helps us maintain a balanced perspective.

This time of year – when gratitude takes center stage – is the perfect time to pause and consider what you are thankful for. Here’s my current list:

I’m grateful for my clients.
They’re the reason I do what I do. Every client who trusts me to step into their business and offer advice, guidance, or even a tough truth – that trust means everything. Whether I’m watching them transform chaos into clarity or burnout into balance, seeing my clients’ succeed is the best reward.

I’m grateful for meaningful conversations.
Consulting isn’t only about spreadsheets or strategy decks – it’s about people. Nothing lights me up more than listening, understanding, and helping my clients see possibilities they may have missed. Those “aha” moments when a solution to a problem suddenly clicks into place – well, they never get old.

I’m grateful for flexibility and freedom.
Owning my own consulting business means I get to design my days around my values. I can choose who I work with, how I serve them, and what kind of impact I want to make. I relish having the freedom to do meaningful work with people I value and who value everything I bring to the table. And I never take this freedom for granted.

I’m grateful for growth (mine and my clients’).
span style=”font-weight: 400;”>I’m constantly learning. Each client, each project, each challenge, teaches me something new about leadership, communication, and the art of balancing empathy with accountability. Growing right alongside the people I work with is a gift in itself.

And I’m grateful for community.
Consulting can feel like a solo journey. But I’ve been lucky to connect with other small business owners, and professionals who share ideas, provide inspiration, and offer encouragement. Whether through networking groups, partnerships, or quick coffee chats, these connections remind me I’m not in this alone.

Today, I’m pausing to say thank you – to my clients for their trust, to my colleagues for their support, and for the ever-changing work that challenges me to keep becoming better!
